Classes to Resume on Normal Schedule Monday, Jan.9

Sunday, January 8, 2017

CHARLOTTE - Jan. 8, 2017 - Classes will resume and the semester will begin as scheduled on Monday, Jan. 9. However, as a result of the lingering effects of  the winter storm, UNC Charlotte will continue to operate in Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) until noon on Monday.

Campus roads, walkways and most parking areas are clear for careful travel but with extremely low temperatures expected again overnight Sunday, individuals are encouraged to use caution and allow extra travel time.

While the University is obligated to make decisions based on the conditions on campus, it is important to remember the weather in other areas may be more severe.  Therefore, regardless of the University’s operating condition, members of the University community should exercise good judgment about their ability to reach campus safely.

If students cannot reach campus for the start of classes on Monday, they should contact their instructors directly. Faculty members are encouraged to offer flexibility for students traveling farther distances back to campus.

Note: Housing and Residence Life will hold move-in as scheduled until 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8.

Anyone who notes any hazardous areas on campus shold report them to Facilities Management Customer Service at 704-687-0562.

If you cannot reach campus Monday:

  • Students

    • All students: Contact your professors.  Monitor your email and class Canvas or Moodle website for messages from your instructors.

    • On-campus resident students: If you have questions about returning to your residence hall, contact Housing and Residence Life at 704-687-7501.

  • Faculty: Consult the Academic Procedure: Schedule Interruption Guidelines and contact your department head to discuss alternative arrangements. Additionally, you should update your students about any attendance policies or modifications due to weather-related events.  This may be done through email or the “Inbox” or “Announcements” tools in Canvas.

  • Staff: Non-mandatory employees should contact their supervisors to discuss how they will account for missed time.  Mandatory employees are expected to report to work as directed.

Continue to monitor the NinerReady website for the latest information on the University’s operating condition.

You will be notified when the University returns to normal operations.
