Update on Presidential Event at Belk Plaza

CHARLOTTE - Oct. 22, 2016 - Here is updated information related to the Sunday, Oct. 23, presidential campaign event at Belk Plaza on the UNC Charlotte campus. Secretary Hillary Clinton’s campaign has reserved Belk Plaza for this event.

This open-air event will begin at 5:30 p.m.; gates will open at 3 p.m. As a reminder, space is limited, and attendees are encouraged to RSVP at the campaign website, but an RSVP does not guarantee admission.

Additional information regarding campus on Sunday:

On Sunday, Colvard, Kennedy and Rowe Arts Buildings will be completely closed. Entrances to Macy and Winningham facing the Belk Plaza will be closed; the buildings will remain open but accessible only from the east entrances of the facilities. Also, all 24-hour access to labs in Colvard, Kennedy and Rowe will be suspended until the event has concluded. All buildings will return to normal operations at the conclusion of the event.

Event parking details are:

·       General public parking in East Decks 1, 2, 3 (no charge)

·       Overflow public parking in Lot 5 and Cone Deck

·       Bus parking in Lot 6

·       Disability parking in Lot 16A (access from Van Landingham/Mary Alexander) and Lot 28

         (access from campus main entrance) 

·       Media satellite truck parking on sidewalk between Kennedy and Prospector (access off of Craver/Library Lane)

·       General media use public parking in East Decks

Broadrick Boulevard/University Road will be closed from approximately 1 to 8 p.m. (between the main entrance traffic circle and Lot 30).

Information about event security:

Individuals should arrive early and expect airport-style security (leave large bags and liquids at home or in the car, remove all metal items from pockets and large belt buckles). Prohibited items include homemade signs, placards, umbrellas, large bags, alcohol, weapons or noisemakers. No food or drinks are allowed inside the event; water will be provided.
